The Agendas
During an intense professional and personal life, Paolo Mariani found time to capture brief moments of inspiration, jotting down ideas and suggestions in a series of diaries.
Their pages, filled with notes, sketches and fragments of thoughts, have become a precious creative archive testifying to his artistic journey.
Although sometimes meagre and fragmentary, these notes are dense with meaning and represent the foundations of his work and research, documenting his creative journey and constituting an inexhaustible reservoir of ideas for future thematic and formal explorations.
artist statement
My artistic inspiration comes from trying to capture lived emotions that continue to resonate with me over time. Sometimes they spring from very tangible physical sensations-the abyss of a parachute jump, the breeze moving the branches during a walk-other times they surface from an unexpected visual detail, such as a sequence of bright colors in a usually sober context or the shape of a branch that ignites an unexpected thought.
Each work is linked to a specific moment experienced, marked by an emotional intensity that demands artistic expression even years later. This is why each title always bears a place and time (the diary), because, not a landscape, but that hic et nunc stirred something deep within me, resonating with my love for life.
The impulse that drives me to create is thus the result of a strictly individual experience that does not aspire to convey great universal themes because it is aware that what it can sincerely offer is only the lived experience. It is an intimate, personal, honest gesture; I welcome as a precious gift if someone, observing, is touched by it.
