Francesco Caracciolo, an art historian and critic, and recently a member of the 17th Art Commission of the Parliamentary Intergroup for the Development of the South Minor Areas and Fragile Islands at the Chamber of Deputies in Rome, covered the Jesolo Prize 2025 event.
At this event, where as many as 11 works by Paolo Mariani were on display, he penned the following review.
Wednesday in Gorica/Thursday in Trieste: author speaks
“Wednesday in Gorizia”/“Thursday in Trieste” constitutes the subject a small diptych that Paolo Mariani felt the need to elaborate in two stylistically rather different versions.
The first version performed in 2022 is very graphic and dominated by a prominent black reticle. The second version, executed in 2024 and unusually painterly, seems to suggest a desire to recover that memory by focusing more on the evocative power of atmospheric elements.
JESOLO 2025 Award, June 1-10
The annual edition of Premio JESOLO opens June 1 at 5:30 p.m. at Gabriele Salvatore’s Artemente gallery. The multidisciplinary event-which involves artists working in painting, sculpture, photography and poetry-will be hosted partly by the gallery’s rooms, located at 7 Grenadier Square, and partly in the recently refurbished former barracks in Cortellazzo.
POV: Multiples as “Alternative Originals”?
I don’t know if every author finds himself at some point considering whether it has meaning to create multiples of his works, I certainly asked myself the question of what meaning I wanted to give to my multiples.
A mere reproduction, no matter how good quality, necessarily returns a poorer version of a work.
So does it have meaning to create multiples? I believe so, if we can give them their own “personality” in interpreting the subject.
